Halloween is here again, and you know what that means! Ghosts, ghouls and goblins will be out trick-or-treating! We want to share some tips that will help make sure you and your family have a fun and safe time.

  1. When putting on costumes, make sure they are fitted properly. A costume that is too big could be a tripping hazard and block eyesight. If it is too tight airways could get restricted and make breathing difficult.
  2. Go with a group! A large group is easier to see from the road for motorists, and will help with supervising children as they are trick-or-treating.
  3. Wear highly reflective materials. This will make it easier for drivers to see you when walking. You can also use reflective materials on bags or accessories.
  4. Carry flashlights with you. This will help you and your children be even more visible, as well as help you check candy.
  5. Look both ways before crossing the road.
  6. Use the crosswalk. Do not start crossing until you all cars are stopped and drivers can clearly see you. A good way to make sure they see you is to make eye contact before crossing.
  7. Take your child’s Ident-A-Kid ID card with you, especially if you will be going to a larger event.
  8. Before eating candy, parents should check treats to make sure there are no choking hazards or suspicious looking pieces. If the wrapper is open, throw it out.

We hope these tips are helpful and want to wish you a happy Halloween!
