South Paris, TN – The main focus of Paris Special School District is improving school safety. PSSD Superintendent Norma Gerrell said “I want us to be more prepared not just compliant in our drills. We need to be urgent about safety when it comes to the kids in ours schools”. The district is looking into new locking mechanisms for the classroom doors. With a flip of a lever, this allows teachers to secure the door from the inside. There are also camera systems at each school, which connects directly to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and 911 dispatch. During school hours, PSSD schools use Ident-A-Kid Visitor Management System to help eliminate safety gaps. The Ident-A-Kid program has already shown to be effective in the school system when the system alerted Paris Elementary to a person who tried to enter the school last week who was on the sex offender registry list.
